Our Issues

For Our Future Michigan builds progressive power through voter engagement, issue advocacy, and community organizing to create shared economic prosperity, strengthen public education, advance social and racial justice, and preserve the environment.

Shared Economic Prosperity

A strong Michigan is one where every person and every family has an equitable opportunity to thrive. We’ve worked hard over the years to fight for legislation that increases the minimum wage, provides earned paid sick time to all workers, pushes back against assaults on union organizing, and makes corporate actors and the wealthy few pay their fair share.

Strong Public Education

At For Our Future MI, we’ve stood alongside our union allies, teachers, parents, students, and public school staff at every step of the fight. We’ve advocated across the state for equitable funding, taken your stories to our elected officials in Lansing to show that Michiganders believe in quality education for all, and rallied on the capitol steps to ensure that zip codes don’t dictate success. Now, with the historic provision of almost 20 billion dollars to public schools across the state in 2022, Michigan will finally be providing equitable funding for all. This funding, among other factors, will help increase the ability for schools to address mental health issues, special needs, and stabilizing at-risk students; ensure all children are giving a good foundation as they prepare to enter the K-12 system; provide money for schools to shore up crumbling infrastructure; and help create centers where students can engage in extracurricular activities.

Social and Racial Justice

At For our Future MI, we wholeheartedly believe that a truly just vision of the future must account for the needs and experiences of all members of our society. Removing barriers that maintain poverty, block access to full participation at all levels for those with disabilities, and that uphold deep systemic racism is key to creating a Michigan where everyone has the opportunities and resources they need to thrive and survive.

Preserving the Environment

As stewards of ⅕ of the world’s fresh water, Michiganders across the state understand how important it is to protect our natural resources. However, under GOP leadership, Michigan went from having some of the strongest polluter pay legislation in the nation to having almost no accountability process for corporate polluters. From threats like PFAS and lead in our water that are wreaking havoc on the health of our communities, to toxic waste sites that aren’t properly maintained or monitored causing serious water and air quality issues, to service lines that leach chemicals into our drinking water, we’ve amplified the concerns and demands of everyday Michigan people.
